Did you see my Woodland Christmas party I featured yesterday?
It was such an easy decorating theme and I’m proud to say I used only things I had on hand, so the cost was minimal.
I decided on a winter woodland theme because as Aussies experiencing Christmas in the heat of our summer, I thought it would be novel…. plus, I hadn’t used this theme before!
The white owls were my feature item and were a big winner on the night. There were 18 owls painted on shapes that I cut from MDF.
You can’t beat candles and fairy lights for atmosphere and I use them often when decorating for night time gatherings.
For this event I used 90 candles in recycled jars. Some were on the shelves, others hanging from the roof, plus more spread around the room on the tables. I used 5 hour burn time tea lights and a handful of pillar candle. . . so the candles were still twinkling as the night came to a close.
Tip: pop your candles in the freezer for an hour or two to extend their burn time.
The table runners were made from left over pallet wood.
My daughter Aimee had already sanded them last week when we worked together on another pallet project. I simply added 1” high scrap wood supports underneath to lift them up off the table. Our table was a whopping 3.5 metres long, so I used two table runners down the centre of the table.
The shabby table runners were given a coat of white paint and then distressed. I think they added a nice touch to the tablescape, by lifting the feature items up off the table. . . . while also keeping the items below eye level.
The secondary items were a multitude of pine cones, fresh greenery, wreaths and some recently sourced tree trunk segments. Everything got a spray of Santa Snow, which instantly gave it a wintery look.
Once I was satisfied with the vignettes, I finished with a sprinkling of faux snow. I’ve had a bag of Faux Snow in my stash for a few years, so I’m not sure where it originated from.
Added to that was lashings of white table cloths, napery, and dinnerware.
The overall look was a winter white Christmas!
And the best part. . . it was so cheap to do with nearly all items sourced from nature for free.
