Are you one of those people who welcomes the changing of the seasons with open arms?
Apparently the majority of the population enjoys the changing seasons…. hhmmm, well I’m not one of those people. I detest cold weather and would be happy to delight in balmy summer weather 365 days of the year. YES I know I shouldn’t complain too bitterly, as I’m luck enough to live in a part of the country that boasts having one of Australia’s most temperate climates. Our seasonal changes are fairly mild, BUT it does still get colder in winter. Did I mention I hate the cold?
I realised on the weekend that I’ve been in seasonal denial. Sure I’ve seen the tran-seasonal clothing flooding into fashion outlets, but the humid weather has kept me thinking it is still summer. The calendar has been in Autumn for a full month, but still I’m hanging onto summer.
Then on the weekend it happened….
…our first night with a nip in the air had us reaching for a blanket. The next morning I set off for my early morning walk only to be surprised by the cool air racing up my pants leg. That’s when I took notice!! OMG… my frangipanis have almost stop flowering; their heady scent has all but disappeared and today [sob] their leaves have started to fall.
It must be Autumn after all.
So what’s a girl to do when impending ‘winter blues’ are about to engulf me – make slippers of course!!
Not your woolly winter slippers – I have big warm Ugg boots for that season.
No, these are more your light slip on slippers for the in-between season,… you know, too cold for bare feet on the timber floor but too hot for the big woolly Uggs.
I already had some lovely natural linen and instead of using wool felt I went the fur lining.
Not satisfied with ‘au naturel’ I added a little rose embroidery to the top.
So now I’m all set for the cooler Autumn nights. Umm, except that scary Autumn weather has gone again and we’re back to a hot sunny 26 today, but that’s okay, I’m prepared for that day when it comes back and doesn’t go away again.
