I’m playing ‘hookey’ this week.
I’ve decided to hug my children. Take some time to talk with them, listen and just be there. They are kind of sick of me already.... but they are humouring me.
This week we have all been devastated by Australia’s horrific natural disaster in Queensland. It is all so tragic and it is still a long way from being over. It is quite possibly the worst natural disaster in our history and possibly in the history of our nation. Sadly the death toll looks to be rising as emergency services personnel and police move into the more remote areas of the Lockyer Valley.
Closer to home, we’ve been touched by the death of one of my daughters friends last week. At only 13, his unexpected death has sent shockwaves through our community. Coming to terms with death is painful and complicated for anyone, but watching young teens trying to make sense of it is heartbreaking.
All these things put life in perspective. So, this week I’m playing ‘hookey’ and enjoying being with my children. Working and creating can wait until next week.
