School holidays started here this week which usually means the peace and serenity of my studio is shattered by the wave of teenage children flowing in and out of my home. I expected to be doing the usual refereeing of sibling arguments, cleaning up after tornados sweep through my kitchen and running a mums taxi service several times a day.
Surprisingly…. things are flowing smoother than normal. It’s been busy, and yes there has been at least a daily trip to town and teens congregating in larger numbers than I find comfortable BUT everyone is getting along quite nicely. There’s been sleepovers most nights, several outings and a day spent at the beach. Here we are 5 days in and I think I can safely say I’ve remained calm and ‘almost’ relaxed. Perhaps my girls are growing up and we’ve moved onto the next stage.
This is what I spied outside yesterday….
Princess Jess asked if she and her friend could use some things from the studio. That rarely happens, so I eagerly gave them whatever they wanted. My kids are a bit over the whole art thing having been surrounded by it all their lives, but their friends are still excited by a visit to the classroom. I left them too it thinking they’d use the studio space but found them sitting out in the sun in their art smocks.
Whoops… they’ve seen me.
Look at those big smiles. They had so much fun and created some interesting, bright canvases. If only school holidays were always like this.
Tonight Miss Aimee has 4 friends sleeping over… I don’t suppose they will actually sleep but as long as they let me sleep we should have a happy household tomorrow.
I’m off now to make homemade pizzas and herb bread for the apparently starving teens. Are they ever not hungry?
