Inspiration for the New Year

Well.... can you believe it, here we are already in 2010!! A new year, a new decade.

Do you make a New Years resolution?

I've never really been one to make resolutions - probably because I know I'd never keep it. I always feel like the new year is a fresh start though. I like to get the Christmas decies down as soon as we celebrate new year (and lets face it, usually they start going up in our house sometime in November, so they've had a good run). Then I clean my house thoroughly... more of that fresh start business. Next I map out my year ahead... you have probably already picked up about 100 or so posts ago that I'm a bit of a list girl. Okay, BIG list girl.... move on.

I also like positive affirmations. Something to keep you strong, uplifted or a personal goal. My affirmation for last year features on this painting I did recently... 'Always follow your dreams'.

It's an affirmation that helped me move my life in a new direction last year. Definitely a good affirmation for 2009. My new one for 2010 is more of a positive statement that I can reflect on when needed.

I've been asked many times about the diva's that feature in my paintings. I don't have to look very far for inspiration...

Here's my very own diva who often features in my paintings like the one above.

Recognise that long curly hair and pouty lips? It's not often we see that waist length curly hair out. Most often it is straightened and up in a sloppy bun. This is my 'Princess Jess' early on Christmas morning - a la natural. The painting in the background was a special gift I made for her.

It is painted on a 90 x 60 cm stretched canvas. Jess knew exactly what she wanted and has been planning it for quite some time. The elements that are grafittied on her 'love bus' are all things that reflect her life and beliefs. It is a completely personalized artwork. Jess had a lot of input as I was painting it too, which made the process... um, 'interesting'!! We met somewhere in the middle and I think we got a piece of art we were both happy with. It's now the feature in her new bedroom and looks great on her bright blue wall.

I've had an amazing creative streak this past week so I hope it continues. Being able to paint what I like when I like, is certainly very liberating right now. I'm off to sell my wares at the Artist Market tomorrow. I'll pop back later this week to show you some of my latest canvas paintings.
Now I am off to cruise through blogland and catch up on everyone's New Years news.
