Free Christmas pattern

Is it just me or is there a hint of anticipation in the air today?

It is after all the first day of December ~ the countdown is officially on. In our home this morning we woke to squeals of delight as door #1 was ripped open on the advent calendars..... aahhh yes, nothing like chocolate for breakfast.

I noticed that the chocolate surprises inside the advent calendars seem to be getting smaller each year. This is probably a good thing given millions of children all over the world are tucking into their calendars the moment their eye are open each morning.

So with the days fast slipping away until Christmas is here, I have a small gift for all my readers - a free Christmas pattern download. If you are anything like me, you already have a huge list of crafting festive projects to get through, but this one is a quickie.

Ever since my girls were small we have honoured the tradition of putting a plate of food out for Santa's supper. It started innocently enough with a glass of milk and a piece of homemade fruit cake, but somehow over the years it progressed to a cold beer and a platter of cakes. [giggle]

Then one year Princess Jess said "what about the reindeers?" and so a new tradition was started. The sprinkling of magical reindeer food on the lawn just before going to bed was a very enjoyable experience for all of us.

I've been making the magical reindeer food ever since and now that my girls have outgrown the tradition, I make it and give it to other young children. It makes a great (and cheap) gift to give the whole kindergarten class or school friends - wrapped in cellophane with the poem written on a swing tag. I have a hand painted box full of magical reindeer food in my front foyer and give scoops of it to young visitors.

I've adapted one of my designs from my latest Whimsical Doodles book for use as a stitchery on a Reindeer Food bag. Alternatively, you could make it as a pen and wash project.

Click here to download the pattern.

If you would like to see more samples from my Whimsical Christmas Doodles book, you'll find them on the same page as the pattern download.

I hope you enjoy making the reindeer food bag and the magical reindeer food recipe.
