Friday was Princess Jess' 14th birthday and what a celebration. She is feeling so down in the dumps because of her Chronic Fatigue, so we decided she needed a bit of a cheer up. She was adamant that she didn't want any fuss this year....but how could we not?

She only goes to school a couple of times a week but she manged to go on Friday and of course all her friends made a fuss. Friday night we had a family get together. Jess is always hard to make a birthday cake for because she doesn't eat cake. Usually she gets a homemade ice-cream cake but this year she requested a Chocolate Ripple Cake - do you remember those? I think they were big in the 70's & 80's and my children have just recently discovered them. So that was an easy cake to make and we all enjoyed it....hhmmm, calorie laden I know.

Then on Saturday night Jess had a few girlfriends around for a sleep over. She doesn't get to participate in those too often these days because of her illness but just this once we made the exception. Jess decided to have a take away dinner with cheese cake as a birthday cake. That was easy!!!! After they changed their minds many times they finally decided on pizza for dinner. Washed down with copious amounts of coke and followed by the richest caramel cheesecake imaginable. After this they escaped to the bedroom upstairs where we could hear lots of bangs and thumps, giggles and laughter. Judging by all the empty lolly packets I picked up the next day they devoured heaps more sugar laden confectioneries throughout the night. Sleep I assume was optional and they all looked ragged the next morning when they were picked up. Oh to be that young again when you can gorge yourself on junk that your cast iron guts willing accepts, to talk all night and never close your eyes once. I think I can vaguely remember it!!!
Jess certainly enjoyed herself which was all important - unfortunately she hasn't been well since but we fully expected this after such an event. You only have a birthday once a year and this is the second birthday she has celebrated while sick....let's hope that next year she will have come through the other side and be fit and healthy to enjoy her 15th birthday.
Hugs,
Kerryanne
